Weekend events brighten city

Who wouldn’t want to spend their Saturday on the banks of the Alabama River, purchasing local art and mingling with friends? Who wouldn’t want to spend their Saturday lounging in lawn chairs, checking out antique cars and eating snow cones?

There were probably many events and activities scheduled for last Saturday all around the state, but in the Selma and Dallas County Community, residents didn’t skip a beat attending the Valley Grande Founder’s Day and the ArtsRevive Streetfest.

We want to thank the Valley Grande City Council for organizing an event with great live music for the community. Though the event is growing and getting bigger every year, we commend the city for creating these community events for residents.

We also want to recognize those on the board with the ArtsRevive for bringing the Alabama Symphony Orchestra to Selma and enhancing our local knowledge of the Civil War through music with Bobby Horton, one of the leading historians in Civil War music.

We always praise events that bring the community together for one great cause, but this weekend we want to say thank you to those events for not only bringing residents together, but for just simply making us happy and simply making Saturday beautiful.
