Mary Ward Brown, age 95, passed away May 14, 2013 in Marion, Alabama following a diagnosis of pancreatic cancer. Services will be held May 17, 2013 at 3:00 with a visitation an hour before the funeral at St. Wilfrid’s Episcopal Church, Marion, Alabama, officiated by the Rev. Dr. Daniel Thornton. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

She was preceded in death by husband, Charles Kirtley Brown; her parents, Thomas Ira Ward and Mary Hubbard Ward; her brothers, Sheldon Fitts, Sr., and William Ward.

She is survived by her son, Kirtley Ward Brown (Susannah) and granddaughters, Mary Hays Brown and Helen Ward Brown; and nephew, Sheldon Fitts, Jr. (Lisa).

After graduating from Judson College, she lived in Auburn, Alabama, for a short time, before returning to Hamburg, Alabama, where she lived with her family in the home where she was born.

Mrs. Brown was a noted short story author whose literary works reflected life in the South and eternal human themes, who cherished an ever-widening circle of loving friends who will never be forgotten.

Pallbearers will be Rick Anderson, Bob Eiland, Clark Eiland, Doug Halbrooks, Johnny Parker, and Jerry Siegel.

Honorary pall bearers are Nancy Anderson, Jim Blanchette, Randall curb, Ralph Draughn, Jr., Charlie Flaherty, Dartie and Wayne Flynt, Andrew Freyer, Peggy Galis, Eddie Gibbs, Joe Hagood, Pam Kingsberry, Shane Lee, Beth Motherwell, Susie Paul, Scott Peacock, David Potts, and Ozella Thomas.

In lieu of flowers the family request that memorials be made to Judson College, the Auburn University Rural Studio, and St. Wilfrid’s Episcopal Church .
