It’s time to say enough is enough

Since Sunday we have made an effort to keep last week’s shootings on Hardie Avenue and the ensuing search for the seven suspects tied to those shootings on the front page of each edition.

Today, we continued that effort as we updated the court proceedings that saw a third suspect make their first court appearance.

And, it is our intention to keep this story on the front page until each of the seven suspects are in custody, charged and placed in the Dallas County Jail.

Is it what we want to cover? No. Is it something that deserves to be covered? Yes.

But there are not enough days in the week for us to keep this on the front page and make the changes needed in our community to end such news from happening in the first place.

When you have these type of individuals — who feel empowered enough to go grab weapons and fire indiscriminately in the direction of homes, cars and children — then front-page coverage isn’t going to fix it.

What will change this is the residents of Selma rising up and telling those who would ravage our neighborhoods, infest our communities with their criminal wants that enough is enough.
