We love Clifford and Selma’s YMCA

Dear editor,

I was so happy to read of Clifford Morrison’s plaque and recognition on the front page Friday and the editorial and see the group picture in the paper this morning. Thank you for the great coverage of our YMCA and it’s long time aquatics’ veteran.

Clifford has been a friend I made at the Y in the pool at the Grist right after we moved back to Selma in 2001. Also, because of her dedication to bringing Clifford to the pool, we met Inge Bergeron and so appreciate her faithfulness to Clifford and the Y.

My husband and I continue to see Clifford in his inner tube at the new Y sometimes when we are swimming laps. He always has a smile and a comeback when we make waves for him or try to splash him. He is a lot of fun to know and we love his wit and humor. It is hard to realize Clifford is 75. Such a nice looking man in that suit receiving his well deserved award.

The Selma YMCA organization has really impacted my life since I learned to swim at the Grist YMCA 60 years ago.

Rejoining while living in Nashville in 1985, I have been swimming laps since then. Since this letter is about our Y, I would like to take the opportunity to thank the local hotel owners and the Selma City Council for their recent move to help the Y organizations with the lodging tax. You are appreciated.

If you like to move easier, stay young and feel better, join us in the pools or other activities at the YMCA. Great programs, helpful lifeguards, friendly faces at the front desk, solid leadership and a good atmosphere all around.

Clifford is a great example and we are glad he has been honored by the Y. There will be a place for you, too. Clifford and I invite you to come and see.
