Visit the traveling civil rights exhibit

The city of Birmingham is hosting a traveling civil rights exhibit that opens in Selma Tuesday, Feb. 12 at the George P. Evans Reception Center. And while we may be familiar with our own civil rights history, are we fully aware of what happened before the movement came to Selma?

Mayor George Evans said visiting the exhibit will help give people an idea of what led to the movement in Selma. The free exhibit is suitable for all ages and will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. each Sunday, until March 4.

We encourage everyone to attend the exhibit as it incorporates modern technology with old artifacts, melding the past and the present, providing another reminder of just how far we’ve come.
