City makes garbage transition easier

Confusion has surrounded the switch from public to private garbage service in Selma following a unanimous decision made in October. Since this decision, the city has made great efforts to clear the confusion to the best of their ability through public forums and we commend them on this effort.

The city held the first of nine public forums at Selma High School Thursday and addressed several public concerns about the switch. All questions were important and cleared some of the confusion surrounding the switch to private company, Advanced Disposal.

We encourage all residents to attend one or more of the meetings, located throughout the city in different wards, and bring their questions and concerns. If we are all on the same page about the new garbage service than we can have a seamless and “clean” transition.

The next meeting will be held at Morgan Academy on Dallas Avenue at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 10. Advanced Disposal will begin their garbage routes on Feb. 1.

All residents bust use the service. To sign up for the service visit advanceddisposal.com or call 252-0458.
