In a close battle of local rivals, five 3-pointers in the final quarter by Morgan’s Lindsey Yeldell broke a tight game wide open and lifted the Lady Senators to a 48-38 win over the Meadowview Christian Lady Trojans on Saturday.

Jennifer Moore, head girls basketball coach of Morgan (5-9) said Yeldell’s shooting lifted the Lady Senators down the stretch.

“She got on and she was hot. She got the W for us,” Moore said. “We put a lot of pressure on the ball in the second half of the game. I kind of figured if we could keep pressure on the ball while they were bringing it up the court, we could force turnovers and score off of that.”

Meadowview girls basketball coach Elyse McIntyre said her team just had some key mistakes on defense.

“Yeldell got hot and we didn’t get a hand in her face and just had some defensive miscues,” McIntyre said. “We made some mistakes and got confused on defense it looked like. We just didn’t do our jobs like we needed to.”

The Lady Senators held a 27-22 late in the third quarter, but Meadowview’s (2-9) Christina Dabit went 3 for 4 from the free throw line down the stretch and Claudia Kendrick added another free throw to cut the Lady Senators’ lead down to 27-26 going into the fourth quarter.

With the Lady Trojans in reach, Yeldell took over, as she opened the fourth quarter with a 3-pointer to push Morgan’s lead to 30-26 with 7:49 left to play.

After a Meadowview possession, the Lady Senators came back down the court and got it to Yeldell, who hit another three to extend the lead to 33-26 with 7:21 remaining.

Kendrick scored under the basket to stop the run and make it 33-28, but Yeldell hit back-to-back threes to push the lead to 39-28 with 5:56 left.

Dabit scored on two straight trips to make it a 39-32 game, but Morgan’s Casey Baggett hit a shot to make the score 41-32.

Meadowview cut the lead to 41-34, but Yeldell hit her final three of the quarter to put the game out of reach at 44-34 with 2:50 remaining.

Yeldell led Morgan with 24 points, including six threes overall on the night, while Baggett had 8 points.

Dabit had 19 points for Meadowview, while Kendrick had 9 points for the Lady Trojans.
