Fiscal cliff deal a ticket to debtmaggedon

The devil is always in the details as with the fiscal cliff deal. Now that it is passed, we and Congress, can begin to find out what is in it. As predicted previously, the heralded compromise gives the president everything he wanted and gives nothing but promises in return.

The deal is filled with tax increases and only promises for spending cuts later. I saw a graphic indicating for every $1 in spending cuts proposed there were $41 dollars of tax increases. Even these minuscule cuts will never materialize as has been the case historically with Democrats in control.

It is full speed ahead to debtmaggedon.

The approved compromise had $330 billion in new spending attached to it including $430 million tax perks for Hollywood, $331 million for railroad operators, $220 million for Puerto Rico and Virgin Island rum producers, and so on. All of this while 77 percent of American taxpayers, or more than 3 out of 4, will see their taxes go up in 2013 (Family Research Council). There isn’t anything to celebrate in this deal, but more misery later on.

Congress accomplished what it does best and that is to kick the can down the road inching ever closer to disaster. Even if spending cuts are brought back up in two months, the results will be the same — kick the can. The next big hurdle will be the debt limit extension coming up in two months. Without a doubt it will be another theatrical performance by both parties with the end results of passing on more debt to our grandchildren for the wasteful spending of today‘s politicians.

I really do not have energy enough to continue talking about the shameful behavior of politicians in Washington. I have completely lost confidence in the federal government being able to solve anything. It has turned into a bi-partisan sideshow with very few insightful men willing to do the right thing for the country. They are only concerned with raising money for re-election and doing what is personally best for themselves.

What a motley crew. Term limits for Congress is the only solution to this type behavior. Taxpayers deserve better than they are receiving for their hard earned money.

The only thing that has held us together this long has been our Constitution. Even it is under siege now with progressives calling for watering it down by revisions or just ignoring it completely. God help us if we veer from the mooring principles and ideals expressed in that historical treasure envied by freedom seeking people around the world. Our founding fathers were far wiser than anything we could possibly even hope for now.
