VALLEY GRANDE — As the Valley Grande City Council gets a feel for their new seats with only one incumbent official, Mayor Wayne Labbe and the council approved two new resolutions Monday.

The resolutions, which were both approved at the meeting unanimously, brought on Janet Frasier as city clerk treasurer and rehired current city clerk Kim Harris as assistant city clerk treasurer.

“She will be such a blessing to us,” councilwoman Jane Craig said of Frasier as the new city clerk.

Labbe explained Frasier is just 20 hours short of her certification as a city clerk and the new assistant city clerk, Harris, will also pursue further education and training.

“So hopefully before our term is up, we will have two certified people in that office and we won’t have to deal with part time [positions] any more,” he said. “Dollar-wise we will be coming out ahead and knowledge-wise as well.”

Harris said she still wanted to act as city clerk but wanted to transfer departments.

“I’m moving over to the Bus License and Permit Department,” Harris, who has been city clerk for the past year, said. “I will now be assistant city clerk treasurer but this will give me the chance to move over a different department.”
