Mary Myrtle Hill Stoudenmire

Mary Myrtle Hill Stoudenmire Engler, age 97, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday evening November 4, 2012.

Mary was born in Laurel, Mississippi on September 12, 1915. She was one of four children.

Mary was a native of Uniontown, Alabama, where she worked at the local Winn Dixie and served on the city council for many years. She was also a very active member of Uniontown First Baptist Church.

Mary later moved to Maxeys, Georgia to live with her son who she fondly called “Jimmy” and his wife Carlene and their family. While living in Georgia, Mary became an active member of Lexington Baptist Church and the local Senior Center where she found her love of painting.

In 2008, Mary went to live with the wonderful staff at Quiet Oaks Nursing Home, where she was lovingly taken care of for several years.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents, Newton Carlis Hill and Lillie Barlow Hill, her brother Newton Carlis Hill, Jr., and her two sisters Mildred Evans and Muriel Yelverton, by her two husbands, Julian Douglas Stoudenmire and John William Engler, and by her only child James D. Stoudenmire, Sr.

Mary is survived by four grandchildren, James Douglas Stoudenmire, Jr. (Melanie), Robert Kenneth Stoudenmire (Lisa), Timothy Carl Stoudenmire (Penni) and Leigh Stoudenmire Griffiths (Brent).

She is also survived by eight great-grandchildren, Rachel and Rebecca Stoudenmire, James and Alex Stoudenmire, Grayson and Ella Stoudenmire and Elisse and Emilee Pearl Griffiths and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at Lexington Baptist Church in Lexington, Georgia at 2:00 PM on Thursday, November 8, 2012. Mary will be laid to rest in Uniontown, Alabama at 4:00 PM CST at Rosemont Cemetery on Saturday, November 10, 2012.
