Saints win 35-16 over region foe Sumter Central

YORK — Adam Bruno rushed for 72 yards on 13 carries, had one reception for 58 yards and scored two touchdowns to lead Selma to a 35-16 win at Sumter Central in a Class 5A, Region 3 game.

Sumter Central led the game 8-0 at the end of the first quarter after a 3-yard touchdown run by Terance Henson, who ended the game with 58 yards on eight carries.

Selma came back and took the lead in the second quarter, scoring first on a 3-yard run by Bruno and then an 8-yard run by Jesse Harris to take a 13-8 halftime lead. Selma scored twice in the third, a 6-yard Bruno run and a 71-yard punt return by Jeromi Davis. Selma capped its scoring in the fourth quarter on a 17-yard touchdown run by Maurice Averhart.

Sumter Central’s lone second half scoring play was the final score of the game. Clinton Moore caught a 5-yard pass from Julius Maye for a touchdown.

Henson ended the game with eight carries for 58 yards. Maye completed 6-of-14 passes for 120 yards. Harris’s game also included a 26-yard fumble recovering and return when he picked up his teammate’s fumble on a kickoff return in the third.

The Saints return home to face Satsuma on Friday.
