Each year the Times-Journal, in conjunction with the Dallas County Chamber of Commerce, produces a chamber directory and buyers guide that not only provides valuable information about the Selma and Dallas Community, but goes to support the chamber’s operation and mission projects.

The 2013 edition of the director and buyers guide is only weeks away and the cut off date for reserving advertising space is right around the corner, Selma-Dallas County Chamber of Commerce executive director Sheryl Smedley said.

“This publication promotes the businesses and the business community in Selma and Dallas County,” Smedley said. “The whole idea is that this not only advertises the businesses, it also keeps funds in our community. It is also done by our hometown newspaper. So, when you purchase an ad — its not going to an outside source.”

Smedley said a percentage of the sales of the advertisements in the publication are given to the chamber. Chamber members have purchased advertisements throughout the month of September and October, but Smedley said many have not and they should act fast.

“We have a cut off date for the sales and we are trying to keep a timeline,” Smedley said. “And once we meet that deadline there won’t be another chance, because this is an annual publication.”

The Selma and Dallas County Chamber of Commerce Membership and Buyers Guide provides a listing of every one of the chamber’s members, providing a valuable resource to newcomers and long-time residents alike.

“If someone was looking for a caterer or they needed to find a local accountant, they could find them though the directory,” Smedley said. “It is a recruiting tool that showcases our community because it covers education, businesses and industry. It is an all around publication of our community and it is sent out in our newcomer packages.”

Newcomers or those who call requesting information on the area, which she said happens very often, are sent a packet of information that includes the most recent directory.

Those interested in purchasing an ad in the upcoming directory and buyers guide should do so quickly by calling Tina Yelverton, Times-Journal Retail Advertising Coordinator at (334) 410-1732.
