Following last week’s first win of the season, the Meadowview Christian Trojans football team is looking to continue the trend.

The Trojans (1-2, 1-0 AISA Class 1A Region 2) will host the Chambers Academy Rebels (0-4, 0-2 AISA Class 1A Region 1) Friday at 7 p.m.

Lebo Jones, head football coach of Meadowview Christian School, said the Trojans are confident coming off of last week’s 32-0 win over Eastwood Christian School.

“I think it’s built a lot of confidence in our team,” Jones said. “We’ve had a pretty good week of practice, everybody seemed to be in a good mood, and it helps a lot when you come off of a win going into the next week of practice. You can really tell the difference coming off of a win compared to coming off of a loss.”

Jones said the Trojans have been focusing on pass defense in practice to get ready for the Rebels’ air attack.

“They run the spread offense. They throw the ball about 80 percent of the time,” Jones said. “They’re a pass-oriented team that passes to set up the run instead of running to set up the pass. We’ve just been working on a lot of pass coverage and we’ve stressed pass coverage this week because they like to throw a lot of screen passes and they like to throw a lot of short passes, so we’ve basically been stressing pass coverage and getting pressure on the quarterback”

Jones said if the Trojans continue playing like they did last week, they’ll have a shot to win.

“I think if we keep improving week to week like we’ve been doing and if everybody will just take care of their assignment we’ll have a good chance of winning the game,” Jones said.
