Lamont DeWayne Chapman remains in the Dallas County Jail under a bond just over $1 million, while two others sit in jail with bonds of $500,000 each.

The three are jailed and face drug and other charges from arrest made Monday at GWC Homes.

According to Selma Chief of Police William T. Riley, the department’s special victims unit received information “from an anonymous source that a wanted suspect named Lamont Chapman was in the GWC Homes Apartment Complex.”

Riley said the information led detectives to a green Ford Mustang that was parked in the area.

“Undercover detectives observed [Chapman] sitting inside the vehicle with two other unknown suspects,” Riley said. “The detectives were aware that Chapman had several outstanding warrants against him. Additional personnel were called to the scene and the subjects inside the vehicle were confronted.”

Riley said that once they approached the suspects, Chapman ran from the vehicle, but was quickly apprehended.

The two other suspects, Jamaal Tarver and Byron Sewell, were also taken into custody.

“Inside the vehicle, the detectives found a large bag of marijuana weighing close to two pounds with a street value of approximately $15,000,” Riley said. “They also discovered another $481 in currency. All three suspects were charged in connection with the illegal drugs.”

Chapman was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana first from Monday’s arrest as well as other charges from previous incidents. Those charges included fugitive from justice, shooting into occupied vehicle, reckless endangerment, assault second, attempted kidnapping and two counts of attempting to elude.

Tarver and Byron were both charged with unlawful possession of marijuana first and each had bond set at $500,000. Total bond for Chapman is $1,016,000.
