Supermarkets and department stores have already shifted into back to school mode and stores are already stocking up for the tax-free weekend in August for school supplies.

The sales tax holiday will run from Friday, Aug. 3 to Sunday, Aug. 5 and will grant some relief to parents for the high costs of school supplies and uniforms. Clothing under $100, school supplies under $50, books under $30 and computers and computer equipment under $750 make-up the list for tax-free items.

Screen Co. on Bell Road has uniforms printed and ready to go for back to school shopping. Si Gresham, manager for Screen Co., said the tax holiday is a booming and busy time every year, but said they will be ready.

“Know everybody comes in that one day and we either have the stuff ready or we don’t,” Gresham said.

If school uniforms are sold out on the tax-free holiday weekend, many area stores allow parents to place an order for the uniform and still pay for it on that day, free of taxes.
