Following the arrest last week of theft of property suspect, Dorita Lynn West, Selma Police suspected that more alleged victims would come forward in the ongoing investigation — and they did, four more of them. One of the four alleged victims was elderly, all were female and all had similar stories to tell.

Last week, West was arrested on theft of property charges for allegedly swindling an elderly woman out of her vehicle and house, but due to more victims that have come forward, West has been issued new charges: one count of first degree theft of property deception and four counts of second degree theft of property deception. In addition to those new charges, she was given a total cash/property bond of $210,000, and this led to her probation being revoked on a previous forgery case.

In the first new case, Selma Chief of Police William T. Riley said a female victim was shown a picture of a vehicle by West. The victim then proceeded to give West a $830 down payment on the vehicle but then never received the vehicle. This occurred in May of 2012.

A second victim was a female as well. West took this victim to a residence that she was going to rent to her.

Riley said after the victim viewed the residence, West told her she needed $1,100 for a deposit and repairs. After several weeks of the victim attempting to move into the residence, West kept stalling, according to the victim. After seeing the initial arrest of West, the victim came forward about this incident in May.

A third case involved an elderly female victim. According to police, West allegedly took approximately $750 in a check from the victim to be cashed by a third party in February and then returned to the victim, however the victim claims the money was never returned. West took the check because she told the victim she was having an event. The elderly victim told police she eventually believed the event to have been a scam because it never took place.

A fourth case involved the same elderly victim giving West a check for $500 for another said event, which the victim now claims to be a scam. The victim gave West a check in March, giving it to West to be cashed by a third party.

A fifth case involved West allegedly taking $3,500 from a female victim for a residence the victim was going to rent. Police said West showed the victim a residence she needed $3,500 for a deposit and repairs. The victim told police that after numerous attempts to move in, West continued to delay that from happening.
