The Dallas County Lady Hornets held off a late comeback attempt and advanced to the Class 4A Area 6 championship game, as they defeated Bibb County 51-45 Thursday at Southside High School.

Charles Thompson, head coach of the Lady Hornets (14-6), said his team was clutch down the stretch.

“We made some smart decisions down the stretch,” Thompson said. “We kind of played on and off, but when it came down the stretch we hit our free throws, most importantly. I think we also defended well. Other than that, we played a pretty decent game. We were kind of sloppy at times, but it’s a win, we extended our season and I’ll take it.”

Bibb County cut the Lady Hornets’ lead to 44-41 on a Jaunequa Steele layup with 1:26 left in the game.

Dallas County’s De’Undria Boggs hit one of two free throws to make it 45-41, but Bibb County’s Jamellya Ducker answered with a basket in the lane to put the score at 45-43 with 1:03 left.

The Lady Hornets responded quickly, as Takeela Mixon hit the shot and her free throw after being fouled to make it a 48-45 game with 0:41 left.
